Headway Newry
Headway Newry
Headway Newry is Northern Irelands most recently formed Group of Headway UK.
Established in February 2008, the Group is run by volunteers who all have either professional or personal experience of living with the effects of acquired brain injury.
We have recenlty moved into our new premises occupying two floors in Abbey Yard. The premises have various rooms to cater our vast array of activities.
What is Headway?
Headway is the only charity solely dedicated to supporting people with brain injury, their families and carers. Each year in the UK, around 150,000 people are admitted to hospital with a confirmed brain injury. Approximately 10 to 15% of brain injury survivors will have sustained a moderate to severe brain injury.
The problems resulting from brain injury may not be obvious to other people. Because of this it can often be referred to as a 'hidden disability'. Brain injury can, however, completely change the lives of the person with brain injury and those around them.
Headway promotes wider understanding of all aspects of brain injury and provides information, support and social activities for people with brain injury, their families and carers.
How can Headway Newry help you and your family?
Social Activities:
Our meetings are highly social in themselves! Members often remark that the evening has uplifted them in some way or another. A warm, convivial atmosphere with lots of good humour is guaranteed at all our meetings. In addition, we organise a number of social activities such as: barbeques, seasonal parties, table quizes and fundraising events. We have a Tuesday Club for survivors and meet with our volunteer for lunch before activities.
We also operate a drop in facility using our new premises which are funished with Pool tables, fuse ball, air hockey. We also have a movie room and music room which will be up and running in due course.
