The Headway Annual Awards

  • Date: Friday 7th December 2012

2011 Headway Carer of the Year collects her award from Beverley TurnerAbout the Awards

Once a year, Headway's members, friends and supporters come together to pay tribute to some very special people: brain injury survivors, carers, volunteers and campaigners whose personal achievements have earned the admiration of everyone around them. Their stories are moving and inspirational.

The setting for this celebratory event is pretty special too. The Dorchester has an international reputation for the quality of its cuisine and hospitality. A champagne reception will set the tone, followed by a gourmet lunch in the magnificent ballroom, presentation of the Awards and a charity auction.

There are five separate categories of awards

Carer of the Year Award sponsored by Ameer Meredith

The winner of this Award might be a friend, relative, neighbour or a family member.

Volunteer of the Year Award sponsored by Anthony Gold

Open to all ages, this award recognizes the outstanding contribution of an individual to Headway.

Achiever of the Year Award sponsored by Russell Jones & Walker

An award to celebrate the determination, strength and courage of a brain injury survivor whose personal experience serves as a shining example to us all.

Campaigner of the Year Award

This award can be for a carer, volunteer or a brain injury survivor who has raised awareness of Headway and brain injury among the press, public or key decision makers.

The Stephen McAleese Outstanding Contribution to Headway Award

This special award is in honour of Stephen McAleese, who sadly passed away in December 2010. Stephen, who was just 15-years-old when he sustained a brain injury as a result of contracting meningitis, dedicated his life to promoting understanding of brain injury and helping others from all walks of life. He was a passionate and effective ambassador for Headway.

This award recognises similar outstanding contributions to the work of Headway made by survivors, carers, volunteers or supporters.
