Approved Provider project

Headway has recently developed the Approved provider scheme, a system for use in care homes, respite units and transitional living establishments.

Assessed standards are measured to ensure the provision of specialist care for brain injured survivors with complex physical and cognitive issues.

Headway will inspect the care facilities and compile a directory of Approved Providers for use by families and professionals who require such information. A pilot study is due to commence in early 2010 with 10 sites utilising the standards and assessment criteria.

Alison Richmond is project manager. Alison is a registered nurse who has worked within the field of neurology for over 20 years, originally with acute/high dependency and latterly as a clinical nurse Specialist within neurological rehabilitation, working mainly with brain injury survivors and their families and carers both in a hospital and community environment.
