Headway Essex
Headway Essex provides information, support and services for people with acquired brain injury, their families and carers across Essex.
The Community Support Service provides information and advice, support and signposting for the person with the brain injury as well as their families and carers. Support group meetings are held in several towns around the county each month.
We work closely with other agencies as appropriate including social services, health services, rehabilitation centres, drug and alcohol services, housing departments, employment services, probation service, solicitors, Crossroads and many others.
Our Fundraising and Marketting team in Colchester town centre organises a wide range of fundraising and promotional events throughout the year. These include concerts and dances; sponsored events such as Dogathons, marathons and abseils; fashion shows; classic vehicle rallies and many more.
We use many volunteers both at The Headway Centre and in our Town Office, who bring an enormous range of skills and experiences with them and without whom we could not provide our services.
The Headway Centre in Colchester provides seventy two day care places a week. There is a structured programme which includes: Adult basic education, Communication and Interpersonal Skills Group; IT tuition; arts and crafts; sporting and excercise activities including trampolining and visits to a neuro-gym; outings and social events. Attending teh Centre can help: personal development; increased awareness and insight; behaviour management; peer support; reduced social isolation; as well as valuable respite for the carer.
