Heather Howland
In May 2005, Heather unexpectedly suffered a brain haemorrhage while gardening. She underwent major surgery and was in a coma for 10 days. Her husband, Andy, was told she was not expected to live. He even signed the consent forms that would allow her organs to be donated.
When she pulled through, the doctors warned Andy that brain injuries were complex things. He was not to be alarmed if Heather's personality changed. What no one could have predicted is the manner in which Heather's personality would change.
When Heather awoke from the coma, she had an insatiable sexual appetite. This appetite was for any man, however inappropriate, and she couldn't understand that her actions were in any way wrong. She has had many 'incidents', but Andy has been incredibly understanding and supportive, sticking by her and helping her throughout.
Heather and Andy approached Headway for help. The couple have been working closely with one of Headway's trained counsellors who has been helping Heather understand her condition, known as hypersexuality, as well as control it.
