Challenging behaviour

The Course

In this workshop we explore the common causes of challenging behaviour following brain injury and some of the interventions and techniques that can help to modify problematic behaviour. The workshop also has a self-reflective theme that encourages participants to examine their own attitudes and behaviour and to consider if these might help to maintain some of the challenging behaviour of people living with acquired brain injury?

The overall emphasis of the day is a neuropsychosocial approach to the behavioural consequences of brain injury.

The Trainer

Steve Shears has delivered a wide range of training to healthcare, counselling and social care professionals. He has facilitated courses as an independent trainer and for Relate and MindFields. His background is in counselling and psychology and he has followed post-graduate studies in the neurosciences. Steve works with other presenters from the legal, health and social care professions as well as with carers and brain injury survivors to meet the individual training needs and interests of the group attending the workshop.

Carmen Goodwin is a lead Occupational Therapist and works for the Huntercombe Group at their Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre and Neurodisability Service, London. Carmen brings to the training her wide range of experience in working with clients who have behavioural issues as a result of brain injury and in also training staff to provide clients with support for these issues.
