A correspondence piece in a recent issue of The Lancet Neurology has focused on mild traumatic brain injury.
Following on from The Lancet Neurology’s Commission on TBI, a recent correspondence piece has been published to highlight the importance of recognising mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).
Mild traumatic brain injury accounts for more than 90% of all TBI cases, and the recently published correspondence shares how the Commission acknowledges the “so far largely invisible stories of mild TBI lived around the world.”
The correspondence goes on to stating how mTBI is often misdiagnosed, with mTBI survivors often being given inadequate advice or discharged from healthcare services too early, experiences that we unfortunately hear about all too often at Headway.
Research and policy directions are discussed, with Headway being cited within the correspondence as a support service greatly appreciated by patients.
Finally, the correspondence addresses language and the use of the term ‘mild’ to describe this form of TBI.
