Further information

Who we can help

If you, or someone you know lives in South Wales, has had a brain injury caused by an accident or illness and because of this are having difficulties, we can help. We know that brain injury can turn families’ lives upside down. That’s why we support families and partners too.

How can we help?

We have a variety of services. All are free, apart from our Independent Living & Wellbeing Centre and our Counselling Service. To access our services complete the referral form available on our website, or give us a ring if you need help with this.

Information and outreach service

Our Information and Outreach Officers can meet with you to discuss the difficulties you are having and how we can help. They can link you into other sources of support, including our own, and give you useful information.

Welfare benefits service

We can find where you can go for help to get the right benefits or we can support you with this ourselves. We can also support you to question or challenge benefit decisions.

Family and friends support group

This gives family members and partners a chance to share their experiences and help support each other to cope with the day to day challenges they can face.

Counselling service

If you would benefit from counselling to come to terms and cope with some of the difficulties you are having, our trained and registered counsellors can help. There is a waiting list for this service.

Social and activity groups

We have social and activity groups for people with acquired brain injury in Cardiff and Pontypool where people meet up with others who have been through similar experiences to share understanding and support and make new friends.

Independence and Wellbeing Centre

This helps people with acquired brain injury to practice and maintain skills. Our staff and volunteers support with this and help people keep on top of their day to day lives. It is a chance to meet up with others who share similar experiences, and share support, encouragement and friendship.

There is a charge for this service which is often subsidised by Social or Health Services. We can help arrange this or people can choose to fund this service themselves.

Who we can’t help

We don’t usually work with children with acquired brain injury, people who have had CVA Stroke or who have a degenerative neurological condition.

We can put you in touch with other charities who are dedicated to supporting people in these circumstances.

If you are working with someone with an acquired brain injury

If we can help someone you work with, with their permission, you can refer them to our service. A simple form is available on our website. We appreciate you taking the time to complete this to provide us with useful background information.

As well as our support services, we can also provide training and awareness raising about acquired brain injury.

If you would like to support our service

We could not run our services without the support we receive from individuals. There are lots of opportunities to get involved.

Our volunteers add so much to the services we offer, from making refreshments, to offering a listening ear and supporting someone to get involved in a new activity. We have lots of different volunteering opportunities.
