The Headway Emergency Fund

Why does the fund exist?

To help families and individuals cope with the practical implications of a sudden catastrophic brain injury.

Who can apply?

Survivors, carers, family members, Headway helpline staff, Headway Acute Trauma Support Nurses, Headway Groups and Branches, Regional Co-ordinators, clinicians and other professionals.

We are unable to support applicants who do not reside in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Only one application per survivor of a brain injury can be considered.

What support is available? (to families with savings of less than £5,000)

  • Grants of up to £500 to meet the cost of:Travel costs for families visiting relatives in hospital or rehabilitation
  • Families facing financial hardship (we are unable to pay debts, utility bills or everyday household expenses)
  • Emergency accommodation costs
  • Additional family costs in the immediate aftermath of brain injury
  • Breaks for carers (in normal circumstances we can only offer a break at a cottage in Yorkshire that Headway has access to)

Administration

Applications will be considered by the Executive Committee of Headway UK. Once we have all the information we require, we will endeavour to make a decision as soon as possible. The decision of the Executive Committee will be final and we will not enter into further correspondence with applicants.

Payment

The method of payment will be agreed with the recipient and will take into account the urgency of the situation.
