Headway Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
Introduction
Established in 1990 Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland Headway provides support and services for adults with an acquired or traumatic brain injury. We accept referrals from anyone with the consent of the individual being referred. Following receipt of a referral, first contact is usually with 3 working days, with first appointment being made within 7 working days.
Day service
The day service provides a safe and accessible environment. It is designed to be an opportunity to relearn lost skills and acquire new ones and build self esteem and confidence.
As soon as an individual comes to Headway House we are looking for other potential opportunities and positive outcomes. Positive outcomes include further education, voluntary work, paid employment or community integration.
There is a huge benefit to being an environment with others whom have had similar experiences and are also adjusting to changes in their lives.
The majority of users attend one day per week, with maximum attendance being 2 days.
Outreach
Our outreach team covers the City and County and are responsible for undertaking first contacts through either hospital or home visits.
They offer support on a 1:1 or small group basis in the community. They are able to assist with maintaining tenancies by supporting the individual to manage paperwork and finances appropriately. They also identify social, educational, voluntary or paid employment opportunities.
The outreach teams activities are designed to promote maximum independence for users and enable them to 'move on' from Headway support.
Volunteering
We have volunteering opportunities both through the outreach and day service. All volunteers must undergo an enhanced criminal records bureau check and provide 2 references. We provide training and mentoring and an annual volunteers party in return for our volunteers time and expertise. Volunteering can be a rewarding experience that builds confidence and may provide a route back into employment.
