Best Relaxation & Activities Weekend (BRAW)

BRAW is an annual residential weekend for members of Headway in Scotland.

  • Date Friday 25 September 2026
  • Venue National Sports Training Centre, Inverclyde

Since its inception in 2017, the BRAW weekend has been driven by the passion and commitment of the BRAW Committee – Maria, Evelyn, Joyce, Colin, Fiona, Mary Jane and Teresa. Their shared dream was to create an event that promotes independence, supports recovery, helps people relearn lost social skills, builds confidence and self‑belief, and offers practical strategies for day‑to‑day living. At its heart, BRAW is about peer support, making new friends, and showing one simple but powerful truth - that there is life after brain injury.

Benefits of the weekend

Our BRAW weekend is all about offering new experiences that can support recovery and help reduce social isolation following an acquired brain injury. Brain injury survivors, alongside family members, carers and volunteers, come together for a fun‑filled and supportive weekend at the National Sports Training Centre in Inverclyde.

Across the weekend, participants can enjoy a wide range of activities, from outdoor adventures and dancing to crafts and curling, with time to relax and unwind too – including treatments provided by volunteer therapists. The weekend offers space to try something new, connect with others who understand, and enjoy being part of a welcoming community.

“BRAW inspired me to get back out on bikes, reconnect with others and enjoy life again.”

Activities

Over the years, the BRAW weekend has offered an incredible range of shared experiences that bring people together and create lasting memories. Attendees have had the chance to try activities such as archery, rowing, steam train trips, adapted bikes and go‑karts, alongside raffles, arts and crafts, dancing, curling and walking football. There’s always space for fun and creativity too, with highlights like The BRAW Factor – our much‑loved talent show – and mystery bus tours adding to the sense of excitement and connection. Every activity is underpinned by a simple but powerful aim: to bring people together, build confidence, and reduce social isolation after brain injury, in an environment where everyone is welcomed, supported and included.

“It was a welcoming and relaxed weekend where you could try new activities, take time out, and feel completely supported.”
