Safeguarding adults at Headway Headway recognises that we play an active part in keeping adults at risk safe and abiding by safeguarding regulation. This includes ensuring we act to prevent harm and promote safety in all aspects of work and to take appropriate steps if we have a concern about an adult at risk.
Headway – the brain injury association provides services across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, these services are both directly delivered by Headway and through our branch network.
Safeguarding is everyone at Headway’s responsibility, including staff, volunteers, and volunteers at branches.
Safeguarding concerns and incidents can come from many kinds of abuse including physical, emotional, sexual, financial, discriminatory, domestic, self-neglect, modern slavery and institutional abuse.
Safety and wellbeing will always be Headway’s priority. There will be occasions when we need to share information about individuals with other agencies in order to keep people safe. This could be:
- because you have asked us to
- because there are concerns someone could be at risk of significant harm.
Headway’s guiding principles
Prevention – Headway believes that it is better to act before harm occurs. We will put sensible measures in place to prevent abuse.
Proportionality – Headway will respond to risks consistently and appropriately, and will work to minimise intrusion, where possible.
Protection – Headway will provide up-to-date policies, procedures, information and training to enable all Headway UK staff and volunteers, and branch volunteers to identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
Partnership - Headway will work in partnership with statutory, regulatory and other relevant community organisations to ensure that safeguarding concerns are responded to appropriately.
Empowerment – Headway will always work to have a person-led approach
