Caolan McCormick
Caolan’s time with us was too short but his impact was immeasurable. His presence was a blessing to the world.
18-year-old Caolan McCormick was a beloved son, brother, cousin, grandchild, and friend.
Caolan was a character from a young age, taking on everything he did with fierce enthusiasm, determination and a smile.
His contagious laugh, perfectly blue eyes and a beaming smile made him stand out in any room.
He loved all things outdoors, including riding his dirt bike, sailing, skiing, mountain climbing and camping. He was an expert rider and medal-winning martial arts competitor.
Caolan had a keen sense of fashion and enjoyed music and dancing. He lived for a laugh, often being behind a prank or two!
“Caolan was a free spirit – and that is how he should be remembered – he lived life to the full – with no regrets – his life experiences are a credit to him and his family.”
Tragically Caolan was involved in a road traffic accident on 22nd December 2023 whilst out riding his beloved dirt bike. Caolan sustained significant injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, and passed away from his injuries in hospital on December 26th.
The McCormick family have passionately fundraised for Caolan since he passed away and have to date raised more than £9,000.
Mum Órla told us “Had Caolan survived, he would have needed the support and rehabilitation Headway provide to maximise his quality of life.”
Caolan will be missed by many, from family, to friends, and the wider community, his life had such a positive impact on many. This was abundantly clear from the outpouring of love and support the family saw at Caolan’s funeral. All donations made in his memory have come to Headway – the brain injury association, contributing almost £2,000 alone.
The whole family have pulled together to continue to support one another and raise funds for Headway – the brain injury association in Caolan’s memory since his funeral too.
You can read about how Caolan’s cousins, Clare and Oonagh, ran the Belfast Marathon in his memory here. Clare said “Caolan was adored by his family and friends and will be remembered as being caring, funny and full of life. He was a naturally gifted sportsman who loved the outdoors, adventures and challenges.”. There have also been sponsored step/walking challenges and company fundraisers in his name.
Fundraising in Caolan’s memory continues, and Headway is immensely grateful for the vital funds raised which will go on to improve the lives of many brain injury survivors.
Many families find comfort in celebrating someone special through memory giving, where you can make lasting tributes and celebrate the life of a loved one.
