Making Headway your Charity of the Year changes lives and drives real change for brain injury survivors

We are thrilled to share how award-winning UK insurer Hastings Direct chose Headway as their Charity of the Year. Be inspired by their commitment to supporting brain injury survivors and discover how partnering with Headway can create a meaningful impact for those who need it most.

UK-based award-winning insurance company, Hastings Direct, steps forward for Headway

In May, colleagues from the Bodily Injury Unit at Hastings Direct and their external suppliers and partners stepped up to a fantastic challenge to support Headway – the brain injury association. Their collective effort saw them complete over 69,000km for the Step Forward for Headway challenge, raising more than £10,000 for the cause.

Oli Luck-Baker, Team Leader (Bodily Injury Unit), took inspiration from ‘Project Africa' and rallied this team of close to 400, to attempt to cover anywhere close to the 16,000km recently completed by Russ Cook (@hardestgeezer), who ran the entire length of Africa.

Oli said:

"We chose to support Headway because of the incredible work they do in supporting individuals affected by brain trauma, which directly aligns with the nature of some of the injuries we see in our day-to-day work. Their commitment to improving lives after serious injury mirrors our dedication to helping people recover and move forward after life-changing events.

“Every km covered on foot was counted, including every trip up and down the stairs, walks with the dog, runs, etc.

“As with any challenge there had to be a winner, and with some incredible distances being covered and after a last-minute photo finish I can confirm:

  • “In third place with 662 KM was Karen Cross from Advantage.
  • “In second place by just 2 extra Kilometres at 664KM was Morgan Davies of Howrich Farelly
  • “In first place covering an incredible distance of 763 KM was Russell Weston from Car, Van, Bike and Home

“Well done Russ and everyone who took part!

Most importantly through your generosity, we have been able to raise over £10,000 to support the amazing work that Headway does every day to support people living through brain trauma.

Amber Perry, Corporate Partnerships Manager said:

“This monumental effort highlights the dedication of this amazing team at Hastings Direct and their commitment to supporting Headway and the essential services and support we provide for individuals affected by brain injury.

"The team smashed both their distance and fundraising targets.  We are so grateful to Hastings Direct, a corporate member of Headway, and its partners for their commitment towards supporting brain injury survivors and raising awareness.

"It’s been an absolute pleasure collaborating with Oli and his incredible team. Their fundraising efforts have made a significant impact, and if their dedication has inspired you, we’d love to explore how your company can make a difference as well."
