Alan McKnight - Finaghy volunteer

Alan McKnight

Alan quietly encourages and supports each member to participate and get the most from the sessions.

Melanie Bowden, Network Support Manager for Headway Northern Ireland, shares her admiration of volunteer Alan.

"Alan McKnight supports a group in Finaghy playing mostly Boccia and  New Age Kurling.

He volunteers fortnightly and is integral to the group as he has developed relationships and understanding of each member.

Alan quietly encourages and supports each member to participate and get the most from the sessions.

He completed a Boccia refereeing course to ensure he understood the rules of Boccia and has led the team in Finaghy to win a competition last year.

This year he set his team allegiance aside and helped as a referee volunteer, in our first NI-wide Headway Boccia tournament, ensuring the rules were adhered to and the best teams won.

Larne group won, with Alan's own group Finaghy, legitimately coming second."

Alongside fantastic staff, Headway is fortunate to have many amazing volunteers across the network all helping to improve lives after brain injury. We want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to each and every one.
