Second Hand September Second Hand September: Give, Help, Care and Repeat
Have you heard of Second Hand September? Read on to find out more about this global campaign, why we are taking part, and why YOU should take part too!
Second Hand September is an annual campaign that encourages people to buy second-hand clothing and other items in September to help reduce overconsumption and fast fashion.
Support Headway
This campaign allows us the opportunity to reach a new supporter demographic and share Headway’s story with more people across the UK.
One of the key beneficiaries of Second Hand September is the charity sector. Headway shops rely on donations of second-hand items to support our causes and help fund our programs. By participating in Second Hand September, individuals can have a direct and tangible impact on the community by donating their pre-loved goods to us. These funds are then channelled back into the organisation to support various initiatives, such as providing assistance to those in need, funding campaigns, or promoting our Helpline and ID Cards.
Encourage affordability for all
The availability of affordable second-hand items enables individuals with limited resources to access essential goods, including clothing, furniture, and household items. This reduces inequality and enhances social inclusivity by ensuring that everyone has access to the necessities of life.
Embrace pre-loved and limit waste
The fast fashion and consumer culture prevalent today contribute to excessive waste, resource depletion, and carbon emissions. Second Hand September aims to address these issues by encouraging individuals to embrace pre-loved items instead of buying new ones. By choosing second-hand goods, we reduce the demand for new production, thereby conserving resources and reducing the strain on the environment. As such, extending the lifespan of clothing and other goods through resale reduces the amount of waste ending up in landfills. It promotes a circular economy where items are reused, repaired, and recycled, minimizing the environmental impact associated with the manufacturing and disposal of new products.
Access high-quality items
Second Hand September also has a positive impact on the economy. By purchasing second-hand items, supporters can save money while still acquiring high-quality products.
Furthermore, supporting the second-hand market can contribute to a more sustainable and balanced economy. By reducing the emphasis on constant consumption and encouraging the reuse of existing resources, Second Hand September promotes a shift towards a more circular and resilient economic model.
Be a part of a powerful movement
Second Hand September represents a powerful movement with far-reaching benefits for sustainability and the charity sector. By choosing to buy and donate pre-loved items, we can minimize waste, conserve resources, reduce carbon emissions, and support a more circular economy.
Additionally, participating in this campaign directly contributes to Headway causes, providing vital support to communities in need. By collectively embracing Second Hand September, we can share the Headway message far and wide, allowing further growth and reach for the charity’s message and fostering a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient future for all.
