Researchers conducted an umbrella review to synthesise existing research findings on the health outcomes of TBI. The analysis included 24 systematic reviews and meta-analyses, combining data from over 31 million injured and non-injured participants.

The review revealed that the risk of mental health and physical health outcomes is increased following a TBI. This includes psychotic disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactive disorder, suicide and depression, and dementia, violence perpetration and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The researchers discuss limitations and strengths of the review, as well as discussing future directions for research and considerations for healthcare services.
