Research examines beneficial impact of exercise on symptoms following concussion

Researchers find that improvements in concussion-related symptoms can be related to exercise.

Researchers have explored the association between post-concussion exercise volume and changes in depression, anxiety, dizziness, and postural stability.

Participants were asked to complete weekly exercise logs, which were used to categorise them into 'high exercise' and 'low exercise' groups. The participants also completed questionnaires within 2 weeks of concussion, and then again 1 month later.

The researchers found that greater exercise volumes were associated with lower depression, anxiety, and dizziness symptoms, and faster 'tandem gait' performance.

The researchers suggested there is a potentially beneficial role for exercise within several different areas commonly affected by concussion.
