Headway has now partnered with Leftover Currency - trusted specialists in exchanging foreign coins and notes for charity.
Leftover Currency will exchange any coins or notes from any country and donate 100% of the exchange value plus an extra 5% to Headway!
They even accept old, discontinued or damaged currency, meaning no currency is off-limits or goes to waste.
The new income stream is all thanks The The new income stream is all thanks to one big-thinking supporter, who got creative with ways her team could support survivors and their loved ones.
Angela Taylor, Resource Planner at Intact Insurance, came up with the idea last year as she tried to think of a new and creative way colleagues could support Headway.
Angela said: “There’s not a lot of places that take foreign currency or do anything with it, so we thought it was a great idea to be able to donate leftover money and know that it all goes towards helping those affected by brain injury.
“We knew we wanted to support Headway in this way, so I contacted the fundraising team to get the ball rolling, and they were more than happy to help.
“Colleagues have loved the idea and really gotten behind supporting it. A few have had foreign money just sitting in a drawer at home for years because they don’t know what to do with it or didn’t have an avenue to do something with it - and now they do, and it’s for a great cause!”
Helen Craig, Community Fundraising Manager at Headway UK, said: “We’re so grateful to Angela for spearheading this initiative and to all her wonderful colleagues at Intact Insurance for getting on board.
“We’re now gearing up to roll Leftover Currency out across our retail shops as well, meaning supporters all around the country will soon be able to donate their leftover currency in store, online, by post or by dropping off donations with Leftover Currency direct.
“It really does feel like one of those ‘small acorns’ moments, so we’re indebted to Angela for bringing it to our attention.
“Every cent, euro, dollar, baht, and everything in between all help contribute to the support we provide for people rebuilding their lives after brain injury and really can change someone’s future.”
