Coming together to support brain injury services with virtual fundraising

Mon 10 Nov 2025

This year we have learnt about the power of virtual fundraising. Find out more about this great way to support life after brain injury.

Thank you for running 48 miles for Headway!

Our latest Facebook challenge, Run48, is now complete, and we’re thrilled to celebrate the collective achievement of our incredible community of virtual fundraisers.

Run48 challenged participants to run 48 miles throughout October, and the response was phenomenal. Over a thousand supporters laced up their trainers and hit the city pavements and country lanes to raise vital funds and spark conversations about the importance of recognising the first 48 hours of care following concussion - the most common type of mild traumatic brain injury in the UK.

From seasoned runners to first-timers, the challenge brought together a fantastic community who supported each other in their joint purpose to focus on clocking up miles and raising funds. Social media was buzzing with photos, personal stories, and finish-line celebrations — showing just how much fun people had while supporting a serious cause.

Thanks to your energy, enthusiasm, and generosity, we’ve raised vital funds to support those affected by brain injury, and helped raise awareness about the seriousness of post-concussion care, which will help to transform lives.

To everyone who took part, donated, or cheered on loved ones, THANK YOU! You’ve made a real difference.

Walk 90km

This challenge followed the success of our first-ever virtual walking event at the beginning of the year, Walk 90km, which we were thrilled to see smash the initial fundraising target set.

Together, these events raised more than £100k to support those living with the effects of brain injury, and have shown us that when many people come together, great things can be achieved.

“Virtual fundraising has opened up new ways for people to support Headway, wherever they are,”

said Holly Howey, Senior Fundraising Manager at Headway.

“We’re so grateful to everyone who took part, donated, and shared their stories.”

Why Virtual Fundraising Matters

Virtual fundraising is a great way to support life after brain injury. By offering these challenges online, we’ve been able to reach a national audience, helping us raise awareness of brain injury with people all across the UK registering to take part.

Within the Facebook group, participants share their stories, cheer each other on, and connect over a shared purpose. It becomes a wonderful community hub for the duration of the challenge.

Whether you walk, run, or roll, virtual challenges can be adapted to suit your lifestyle, ability, and schedule, making them a really accessible and flexible choice for our fundraisers.

Every step taken helps us provide essential services, information, and support to those affected by brain injury. We are so grateful for the vital funds raised through virtual fundraising.

What’s Next?

Walk 90km in February is back for 2026!

Our next virtual challenge will launch on Boxing Day, giving supporters the perfect opportunity to kick off the new year with purpose. Whether you’re walking in memory of a loved one, in support of someone living with a brain injury, or simply to get active, we’d love to have you on board.

Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for more details – and get ready to walk with us in 2026!
