Headway's HealthUnlocked online community is a great place to get support in a safe and supportive environment, whether you have a specific question or just want to talk to others who are affected by brain injury. Head over to healthunlocked.com/headway to get involved.
If you need local support, your council may be able to help. Most councils provide a directory of care and support providers on their website, with details of activities, events and groups that you can get involved with. While the name of the directory may vary, it’s usually held in the social care section, or you can give them a call if you need assistance. It might be helpful to take down details of their out-of-hours number just in case you experience a care emergency over Christmas.
Charities like Red Cross and Age UK offer various local services to help people who are on their own, many of which will be available over the Christmas period.
If you need to speak to somebody urgently, you can call The Samaritans on 116 123 or visit their website for details of other ways to get in touch.
For medical questions and advice, you can contact NHS 111. Visit their website or dial 111 to discuss your symptoms, or in case of emergency dial 999.
You can contact the Headway helpline until we close on Wednesday 24th at 12.30pm by dialling 0808 800 2244 or sending an email to helpline@headway.org.uk. The helpline will re-open at 9am on 5th January 2026. Opening times of local Headway charities and volunteer-led branches vary, so click here to find details of Headway near you.
On behalf of all of us here at Headway, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year!
