From clinicians and therapists to legal experts and case managers, delegates joined us to explore the science and practical application of neuroplasticity in rehabilitation which has seen many recent advances in science and understanding.
Exploring the science and practice of neuroplasticity
We opened the day with Professor Alexander Leff, whose session on the fundamentals of neuroplasticity set a strong tone. Delegates appreciated his clear, evidence-based approach and the reassurance that “the windows never close” on brain recovery.
Dr Steve Allder followed with a deep dive into neuroplasticity in neurorehabilitation, offering insights into the cellular and network-level impacts of brain injury. His exploration of concussion and long-term recovery was particularly appreciated by delegates.
Innovations and interdisciplinary perspectives
Sessions from Dr Michael Grey and Sarah Daniel showcased cutting-edge approaches to non-invasive neurostimulation and robotic-assisted therapy. Delegates were particularly moved by real-life case studies and the potential of emerging technologies to enhance recovery outcomes with one attendee remarking, “The future of recovery looks brighter than ever!”
Dr Will Curvis brought a neuropsychological focus to the day, offering a holistic and relatable view of brain injury’s emotional and behavioural impacts. His personal reflections resonated deeply with the audience.
We also explored the legal implications of neuroplasticity with David Cunnington, whose session provided valuable insights into medico-legal practices and litigation involving brain injury.
Celebrating collaboration
A standout moment was the round table expert discussion, where professionals from multiple disciplines came together to analyse a complex case study. This session, hosted by our Chief Executive Luke Griggs, was widely praised for its energy, emotional impact, and practical relevance.
Concetta Ventura, Headway UK Approved Provider and Training Manager said of the event:
“What an incredible day! I feel proud, grateful, and a little bit speechless after Headway's first-ever national conference. From start to finish, the room was filled with energy, collaboration, and such genuine passion for improving life after brain injury.”Back
