A group of ladies came together to swim the channel three times over, swimming from England to France, back to England and then to France again. By completing the challenge in a fantastic 31 hours and 20 minutes, the team broke the World Record by one hour and 11 minutes!
The women chose to support Headway as sadly one of their team mates, Jane witnessed the devastating effects of a brain injury after her younger brother Sean was brutally attacked in 2004.
“My younger brother Sean saw someone get beaten up, stepped in to help the person and the attackers turned on him. They took turns jumping on his head and kicking it and left him severely brain damaged”
Jane and her family got in touch for information and support.
“Headway offered support and understanding to Sean and our family and helped us come to terms with the new Sean as he would never be the same”
Another World Record
Jane and her team mates are no strangers to beating World Records! In fact in 2013 they broke the World Record for the fastest female Double English Channel Relay completing the swim in 18hrs 13mins.
“Naturally, people asked us, "What's next, a triple crossing?!”
Not being a team to turn down a challenge and a chance to raise more money for charity, they accepted and completed the triple crossing this year, taking another World Record in their stride!
Support the team
Whilst the challenge has been completed, Nikki, Natalie, Lucy, Emma, Jane and Dee are still keen to fundraise for Headway and recently held a family fun day adding to their amazing fundraising total. This now stands at a fantastic £1,600!
You can donate online to the team on their Just Giving page, helping them raise even more funds for brain injury survivors, their families and carers.
