Second Chance Headway is seeking new trustees to join our board and help shape the future of our charity. Whether you're a seasoned professional or simply passionate about supporting our mission, we welcome your unique perspective. This is a voluntary role requiring just a few hours of your time each month—with opportunities to contribute to strategic decisions, attend events, and guide our development.
Who we are
We support individuals living with the effects of brain injury, helping them reclaim independence, dignity, and community. Our trustees play a vital part in this mission.
What we're looking for
We’re especially keen to hear from individuals with finance, business, or governance experience to help guide our next phase of growth. However, no prior trustee experience is needed—just a commitment to support the charity and a minimum availability of 2 hours a month.
Trustee responsibilities
Trustees work collectively to:
- Ensure the charity pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document.
- Uphold legal and regulatory compliance (charity law, company law, etc.).
- Use charity resources responsibly and exclusively for public benefit.
- Shape strategic direction and monitor performance.
- Support effective administration and financial stability.
- Safeguard our values and reputation.
- Provide oversight and guidance to the Senior Management Team.
- Attend board meetings and participate in occasional activities (e.g. staff interviews, fundraising).
- Declare any conflicts of interest and adhere to governance standards.
Each trustee also offers their professional expertise, helping the board make sound decisions by reviewing documents, contributing to discussions, and advising on relevant initiatives.
Person specification
We’re looking for people who bring:
- Strategic vision and good judgement
- Creative thinking and confident communication
- Experience of committee or collaborative environments
- Commitment, impartiality, and discretion
- Teamworking skills and a willingness to listen
- Understanding of the legal duties of a trustee (or willingness to learn)
Time commitment
- Monthly board meetings held in person (usually the third Monday), with virtual options by request.
- Occasional involvement in fundraising events or conferences, including our Annual Ball.
If you're ready to make a meaningful impact and support our vital work, we'd love to hear from you.
