A new study has found that normal recovery from a sport-related concussion can take up to 28 days.

A new study has found that normal recovery from a sport-related concussion can take up to 28 days.

The study, published in the journal Sports Medicine, investigated 34,709 college athletes and found that the majority of athletes (85%) with concussion through a sport-related incident were cleared to begin the return-to-play protocol at 1 month post-injury.

Athletes were observed from across a range of sports including football, rugby and basketball, among others and included both male and female athletes.

The authors discuss the implications of the study's findings on the length of time that athletes recover from concussion, which was previously considered to be fewer days.
