Innovative technologies have been found to help with cognitive rehabilitation but not with motor rehabilitation in patients with TBI.
Researchers have looked at existing studies in the area of innovative technologies and concluded that they have a beneficial role when applied to cognitive rehabilitation in patients with TBI. They also concluded that evidence on the effects of innovative technology on improving motor rehabilitation was poor and still controversial.
Innovative technology includes interventions such as virtual reality (VR), computer-based approaches, telerehabilitation and neuromodulation devices. Examining existing evidence in the use of these methods for the rehabilitation of TBI patients, the researchers found that cognitive rehabilitation benefitted from the use of innovative technologies, but evidence for a benefit on motor rehabilitation is currently lacking.
