We currently provide a drop in service each Monday and Thursday and a social group each Tuesday, in different venues throughout Wirral. Covid restrictions permitting, we also provide a fortnightly drop in at the Brain Injury and Stroke Unit at Clatterbridge hospital.
Our service is completely free of charge and suitable for all of those affected by an Acquired Brain Injury as well as their family and friends. The sessions take place at the following times and locations;
Monday; 10:15 am to 12:15 pm at Westbourne Hall, Westbourne Road, West Kirby CH48 4DQ
Tuesday; 10 am to 2pm at 'The Fountains Project' 90-92 Chester Street, Birkenhead CH41 5DL
Thursday; 10 am to 12.30 pm at Meadowcroft, 304 Spital Road, Bromborough CH622DE
We also have a weekly Zoom group each Wednesday at 12 noon - please contact Phil to join this 07506975261
Activities are arranged based upon the wishes of attendees but include arts and crafts, computer skills, games and accessible exercise. Once a month the Tuesday Group enjoys a day out to local places of interest.
Help with PIP application forms including support at Tribunals, general benefits and legal advice, if required, as well as signposting to other agencies.
We provide brain injury awareness training to public and private sector organisations including Police, local secondary schools, other charities such as MIND and Age Uk, solicitors and Liverpool University fourth year medical students. We also provide placements for first year medical students within our groups.
We also provide advice and support to those seeking benefits, legal advice as well as practical advice around living with a brain injury. We keep a range of Headway published information and can signpost people to other services and community organisations.
We raise awareness of brain injury through presentations to medical students at Liverpool University, training police officers on how to deal with ABI victims, as well as presentations to local General Practitioner Groups in the area.
Telephone support is also available.
Headway Wirral provide support for people living in the area of the Wirral Peninsula, bounded by the Dee Estuary to the west, the Mersey Estuary to the east, and Liverpool Bay to the north. They also run a weekly zoom meeting open to all who don't have a local Headway including Isle of Man, parts of Cheshire and North Wales.
