While acknowledging the outstanding contributions of the four retirees, the charity is now recruiting to the roles of Chair and Honorary Treasurer.
Andrew Green and June Gilchrist will step down from the board at the end of the year, while the current Chair of the board, Denzil Lush, and Honorary Treasurer, Colin Reeves, will retire once suitable replacements have been recruited.
Former Chair Andrew Green has been a trustee for more than 16 years, with 13 of those in the role of Chair.
During that time, he made an outstanding contribution to the charity, with his leadership attributed as one of the key reasons for Headway UK’s growth in recent years.
June Gilchrist’s involvement with Headway goes back to 1984 when she was a founding member of Headway Tayside. She then joined the board of Headway - the brain injury association in 2002.
For the past 22 years, June has combined her years of experience as a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist with her passion to fight for brain injury survivors, families and carers to receive the best possible care and support.
Honorary Treasurer Colin Reeves also joined the charity’s board in 2002. With a distinguished career spanning finance, healthcare, and governance, Colin brought huge expertise to the charity during a critical period of growth and development.
His stewardship has been instrumental in shaping Headway into the highly respected organisation it is today, ensuring it operates with financial stability, strategic vision, and commitment to its mission.
Like Colin, Denzil Lush, who for the past three years has steered the board as Chair having been a trustee since 2017, will help the charity recruit new trustees before stepping back in 2025.
“It has been an enormous privilege to have served as a trustee of Headway - the brain injury association for the past seven years – and even more so to have had the honour of being the charity’s Chair,” said Denzil.
“As the charity enters a new phase of its development, it feels an appropriate time to hand over to a new Chair who will bring with them the energy, skills and passion to modernise the charity’s governance structures and processes.
“It is with great satisfaction that I am able to do this knowing that the charity is in excellent health with exciting development opportunities ahead.”
Outgoing Honorary Treasurer, Colin Reeves, echoed Denzil’s sentiments: “Serving as Honorary Treasurer of Headway - the brain injury association for the past 22 years has been an incredibly fulfilling experience,” he said.
“The charity is in a strong financial position, with promising opportunities ahead, and I am confident that my successor will find this role as gratifying as I have.”
An exciting opportunity to join Headway
Luke Griggs, Chief Executive of Headway UK, said: “Earlier this year, we launched a new five-year strategy with the aim of strengthening the network of local Headway charities and branches across the UK, and increasing awareness and understanding of brain injury.
“It is an ambitious growth plan – particularly considering the challenging economic environment. But this is an exciting time for the charity as we invest in growth and build on the solid foundations established by an incredibly dedicated board of trustees.
“Everyone who cares about the charity owes a debt of gratitude to Denzil, Colin, Andrew and June for their outstanding contributions over the past two decades.
“Along with their fellow trustees, they have given us a great opportunity to evolve and develop the charity.
“To help us achieve our aims, we are looking for people with that perfect combination of energy and expertise, and a passion for ensuring this wonderful charity reaches its potential.”
